Great birth of "winged metal". Kazakhstan electrolyze plant laid the foundation for the republican aluminum cluster
- As a metallurgist I’ve always dreamed of a powerful metallurgic industry: our republic must sell not only alumina, but aluminum metal too. But we were not strong enough in those years to build such a plant. Thanks to our independence and private investments, we were able to do that.

Do you remember how we laid the first stone, and all together launched the first enterprise? In soviet period such businesses were constructed for 10-20 years, while we built the first stage of the smelter for less than two and a half years.

By 2020, we have to increase economy by 30-40%, create 25,000 new jobs and build 237 new plants worth 7.3 trillion tenge. This is a daunting task, said President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

During the recent economic crisis, when all countries scaled down investments, our republic continued construction of an electrolyze business. It became the first major construction project of independent Kazakhstan.

The launch by President Nursultan Nazarbayev of "Kazakhstan electrolyze plant" was the first step in the government program of accelerated industrial-innovative development, which also gave rise to the aluminum cluster of the republic. Aluminum produced at Pavlodar JSC "KEP" was officially registered at London Metal Exchange that confirms high international standard of the product and allows the plant to sell output on the market prices.

June 24, 2010 will go down in history of Kazakhstan. On this day the President solemnly pressed the start button of the second, final stage of Kazakhstan smelter, which was built ahead of schedule.

Lu Tao, chairman of China's international construction company NFC, the general contractor of KEP:

-The launch of the advanced metallurgical giant in Pavlodar opens a new chapter in the history of Kazakhstan’s "winged metal". Our company, as general contractor, together with Kazakh colleagues in a short time has made big progress.

In this joint work, we used only the most advanced technologies. We are happy that Kazakhstan has achieved this lofty goal, and together we share the victory of the whole country. The plant was built in record time - 27 months. The rate of construction was successfully combined with the highest level of construction quality.

Gulnara DOSZHANOVA, Chairman of the Oblast Environmental Commission:

- The plant has all certificates required by environmental standards. I liked clean, well-maintained and properly organized production process. The level of labor conditions at the business is also very high.

Alexander Frolov,

Senior Foreman sintering plant JSC "KEP":

- I am a hereditary metallurgist. In 1964 my grandfather came here from Leningrad oblast to launch an alumina refinery. And when I was a child he told me about Pavlodar land in the Soviet Union, where they planned to build two steel giants: one - for production of alumina, and the other - for manufacturing aluminum metal.

In early 90s, a new state - our sovereign Kazakhstan appeared. And when, in 2005, Nursultan Nazarbayev visited the construction site of the smelter, we realized that the work of our fathers and grandfathers would be brought to an end, after all, the Head of State supported us. This was the victory that resonated throughout the world. And let everyone know about Kazakhstan, about our people and our achievements.
